Title : Double white dwarf mergers as progenitors of R Coronae Borealis stars
Abstract: In this talk I will explain what R Coronae Borealis type stars are, and discuss how certain double white dwarf mergers may lead to the formation of such stars. We have performed hydrodynamical simulations of white dwarf mergers, and I will show the results of these. I will also discuss how at least one common envelope interaction must have preceded the merger of two white dwarfs. We have also performed hydrodynamical simulations of common envelope interactions, and I will show results of these, and describe our shortcomings in understanding common envelope interactions.
